Course Overview:  

This program focuses on skills and practices that will enhance the experience of being a clinical preceptor.

Program Learning Outcomes


This program prepares the learner to:


Session 1:  The Ins and Outs of Privacy and Title IX

1.  Understand what FERPA is and how it applies to the work of preceptors with our students at PA College;

2.  Identify both similarities and differences between FERPA and HIPAA;

3.  Recognize inappropriate behaviors and incidents as defined by Title IX;

4.  Locate resources provided by PA College for compliance and continuous education regarding FERPA and Title IX.


Session 2:  The Dollars of Precepting

1.  Identify resources spent on the recruitment and training of new employees

2.  Relate the positive learning environment to the student’s desire to work at that clinical facility post-graduation.

3.  Recognize the benefits of hosting health career students at a clinical facility


Session 3:  Making Sense of Precepting

1.  Review communication strategies to support student success

2.  Justify student mentorship for ongoing professional development of the mentor and mentee

3.  Contrast preceptor attributes and attitudes on student learning

Credit Designation:

  • The Lancaster General Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit (CME).  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

  • This event is awarded 3 PSNA contact hours.  
  • Approved by Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences for 3 continuing education credits
  • Approved by the ASRT for 3.75 Category A continuing education credits
  • Pending approval by the AST for 3 continuing education credits
